During online learning, I have modified my instruction so that students only need basic art supplies. Many of these supplies you may already have for your student’s other classes. Your student needs the following items:
#2 pencils
Colored Pencils
Pencil Sharpener
Colored Markers
Ruler (clear is best)
Glue stick or Glue
Scissors
Small pack of construction paper (Dollar Store is fine)
Black sharpies (fine and/or extra fine)
Blank paper OR sketch book
Magazines (optional)
Tape (optional)
Brown grocery or lunch bag (optional)
Paint (optional - while I am not teaching painting techniques online, I do encourage students to use paint if they desire to complete an assignment. If they need assistance I am happy to help them with their skills).
I encourage the use of recycled and non traditional materials. As such, most of my creative assignments provide students with a wide variety of choices or choice boards. I understand that not all of my students have access to traditional supplies so being creative is the name of the game. For example, one of our early assignments has students drawing their interpretation of a color wheel. Students can draw with colored pencils and markers, but they can also use articles of clothing, toys, found objects and other items around the house to photograph for submission. Other methods of completing this assignment include writing a poem, singing a song, or “teaching” the class. I want all of my students to be successful, and as we know, art and creativity comes in all shapes and forms!
